Why I Became a Therapist

I became a therapist because of a fascination with family dynamics that started during my bachelor’s degree coursework at the University of Kansas. In my Psychology of Families course, I discovered just how complex and impactful familial relationships can be. This sparked a passion in me, not only to help others but also to better understand my own family dynamics and find clarity and healing in my personal experiences.

As I delved into attachment theory, I realized just how crucial it is to have emotionally accessible, responsive, and engaged relationships for our psychological well-being. These insights made me appreciate how important it is for people to feel secure and connected, which really shapes their ability to thrive in life.

Helping others has always been close to my heart. I've been involved in community service organizations throughout my life, and these experiences have taught me so much about human struggles and the power of empathy and support. I've seen firsthand how compassion can transform lives, and this has driven my commitment to therapy.

I truly believe in the power of therapy to heal and strengthen bonds. It offers a safe space for individuals and families to explore their emotions and experiences. By fostering understanding and resilience, I aim to guide people toward healthier, more fulfilling relationships. My mission is to support others on their journey to emotional well-being and connectedness, helping them lead more authentic and joyful lives.

Expertise:

Couples Therapy

I specialize in couples therapy because I believe that couples form the heart of a family, serving as the cornerstone for a healthy family dynamic. A strong, secure bond between partners is essential for them to lead their family effectively, fostering a nurturing environment for growth and well-being. By helping couples build and maintain these connections, we not only support healthier families but also contribute to the overall well-being of our communities. When couples are emotionally accessible, responsive, and engaged, they create a ripple effect that enhances the emotional and psychological health of everyone around them, promoting stronger, more resilient communities.

Emotionally Focused Therapy

I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) because once I learned about EFT and adult attachment theory, it resonated with me so deeply that I never looked back. It makes so much sense to me, aligning perfectly with my belief in the importance of emotionally accessible, responsive, and engaged relationships. When I meet a new client, the first question I ask myself is, "Does this person have another person to lean on for non-judgmental support?" Usually, the answer is no. EFT provides a powerful framework to change that, helping individuals and couples develop secure, supportive bonds. I am passionate about EFT because it transforms relationships in profound ways, and in my opinion, nothing is better than witnessing and facilitating these positive changes in my clients and their families.
